Yes. 500 words per day, every day, no credit card required. When you need more, upgrade starting at $5/mo.
Never. Pawdio transcribes everything on your Mac using OpenAI's Whisper model running locally. Your audio stays on your device. A one-time model download and periodic license check are the only network requests — no voice or text data is ever sent.
On the Standard plan, unused words roll over for up to 7 days, capped at 1,000 rollover words max (2,000 total per day). Only days you actually open Pawdio count toward rollover — days you don't use the app won't accumulate unused words. After 7 days, rolled-over words expire.
Yes. Pawdio works anywhere you can type — emails, messages, documents, browsers, code editors, everything.
Not yet. Pawdio is Mac-only for now. Other platforms are on our roadmap.
Nothing except the word limit. Free users get every feature — the same engine, the same privacy, the same quality.

It lets you dictate in a whisper. Pawdio boosts your quiet voice so you can use it in libraries, shared offices, or next to a sleeping partner.
Press fn+T to start continuous transcription that runs as long as you need. Text streams in ~25-second chunks while you listen to a lecture, meeting, or anything else. Context stitching between chunks keeps sentences coherent. Press fn+T again to stop.
Pawdio detects which native Mac app you're dictating into and automatically adjusts formatting. Apple Notes, Obsidian, and Bear get markdown-style bullets and headers. Apple Mail, Outlook, and Spark get professional greeting/body/sign-off structure. VS Code, Xcode, and Terminal get minimal cleanup with no trailing periods. Works with native desktop apps — browser-based apps like Gmail in Chrome use default formatting. You can toggle it off in Settings.
Hold fn, say a command like "delete last word", "delete last three words", "undo that", or "select all", then release. Pawdio executes the action instead of typing the words. Commands only trigger when your entire recording matches a command — if you say "delete last word" inside a longer sentence, it gets typed as normal text. You can turn this off in Settings.
Yes. Open Pawdio's History tab and click "Transcribe File." Pick any .wav, .mp3, .m4a, .mp4, .mov, .ogg, or .flac file. Pawdio transcribes it using the same Whisper engine and copies the result to your clipboard. Video files and MP3s require ffmpeg (install with brew install ffmpeg). Long files are handled automatically.
Not anymore. Pawdio saves whatever is on your clipboard before pasting, then restores it afterward. So if you copy a URL, dictate some text, then Cmd+V — you still get the URL. This only works for text clipboard content (images or files on the clipboard are not saved/restored). You can turn this off in Settings.
